Posted in Blog on August 15, 2008 by capizzi

I already sent out an e-mail requesting t-shirt sizes and numbers. A few people have already responded … first come first serve on the numbers.  Please reply to the e-mail so I can keep all the info organized.

Here’s the size chart from American Apparel …shirts are different for girls and guys, so pick accordingly.

Mini-Beer Olympics last Saturday was pretty much a success…kind of. hahaha. It was pretty last minute, with little planning, and I think we got too drunk to really accomplish what we wanted to. But we had a lot of fun, and hopefully I’ll be able to post the pics and video from it soon.

Teams haven’t gone too far because we’re trying to find combinations that will make all the teams as fair as possible while mixing the people up and not repeating too many team members. We’ll finish this week.

I posted all the descriptions and specs on the games. Click on the links to the right to read what we’ve come up with. If you have any suggestion, please comment. I’m having trouble with the formatting, so it looks all wacky. I’ll get some pics up to break up the information soon.

Things are looking good so far. We’ve got a solid roster, a lot of new players, a lot of strategy and anticipation … I couldn’t have imagined it better. I’m working on 3 videos of BO, Jenny and Sang took a decent amount of pictures, Rich is thinking about trophies, Johnny’s working the t-shirt, Jenny and Yohan have food down… so we’re well on our way.

Less than 2 months away…time to start training..

Added the address to the “VENUE” section to the right as well as all the directions. I’ll be adding pictures and descriptions soon, but for now, the directions go straight to the house.

Also, I got weary of weirdos stumbling on the blog, so I put a password. If you didn’t the password e-mail, then let me know and I’ll send it to you.

korean-american basketball star yohan lee

Posted in Blog on August 7, 2008 by capizzi

Not thinking I’d post it (or knowing I would), Yohan sent me this awesome article about his basketball league. To be honest, I don’t really know who the article is talking about…haha… but it is a really cool, flattering article praising his teamwork and underrated play.

The article, written for DreamLeague.org, describes Yohan as “the seldom heralded small forward for [team] MIA” who won’t “dazzle you with handles, is not big and imposing, and is not particularly fast or has out of the ordinary hops and he doesn’t have stats that jump out at you.”

“Yohan is your typical role player. He’s your James Posey, Ron Harper, Bruce Bowen, Steve Kerr, AC Green, Greg Kite, etc. These guys are the ultimate compliment to the superstar and every good team needs one. The unsung hero that doesn’t get the glory, but does the small things that helps the team win.”

“The role player, however, does not go unnoticed. He’s the guy that hits the open jumper when the superstars are double-teamed, passes up their shots to get them the ball or grabs a key rebound or steal because the other team doesn’t pay their full attention to them. The role player can very well win you a game.”

Yohan finished the game against the Fury shooting 5 for 13 from the field with 12 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds and a steal. No mention of technicals, but we don’t know if they keep those stats. haha just playin’ yo.

FYI, Yohan was picked 3rd overall in the draft for Beer Olympics 3 by Tran. They previously played together at Beer Olympics I and won the championship as Team Gray in the inaugural event.

We are also starting to think about volunteers.

I think it’s pretty fair to say that most people will want to help out with something sometime during the trip. Sign-ups, lists, and committees were my first thought, which is not to say they’re not possible, but I don’t know if that’s the best way to get everyone involved. We’re thinking of a few different alternatives, but if anyone has ideas on how to organize who does what, please comment. =)

++ For now, if you want to help with a particular section, let me know, and you’ll get relevant e-mails and docs.

bo3 roster & teams (no, we didn’t make teams yet)

Posted in Blog on August 5, 2008 by capizzi

Finally finished the roster last night. Click HERE or on “roster_BO3″ to right of this post. We have 35 people this time which I think is a pretty significant jump from the last two BO’s that were at 25. We’re really going to need a lot of help, maybe not with pre-planning, but definitely while we’re there. Let’s figure out a system that gets everyone involved in a good way. As always, let me know if you have any ideas.

TEAMS

Here’s how the teams are going to be made:

STEP_01: Last night, Sang (because of seniority) chose names out of a hat to determine the Draft Order. Unfortunately, I left that list at Sang’s house, so I’ll post that later.

STEP_02: Each captain picks one person as her First Pick.

STEP_03: With the help of her First Pick, captains make one more pick.

STEP_04: The Teams/Games Committee will place the remaining 2 players on each team to keep them as balanced as possible.

So basically, captains get 2 picks. After those picks and after considering a multitude of factors (including game skill, personality, drinking ability, experience, etc…), the distinguished panel of experts will place the remaining 2 team members.

This is usually a really tedious and frustrating process, but we’ll get to it this Saturday as we test the games.

fire @ J&R seafood

Posted in Blog on August 5, 2008 by capizzi

If you haven’t heard the news yet, which, unless you got the e-mail from Lin or regularly read “Delmarva’s Best Newscast WMDT Channel 47″ news website, Lin and Jin’s dock in Wingate, MD (about 30 miles south of Cambridge) burned down in a huge fire early Sunday Morning.

If you want to read this Pulitzer Prize winning article, click HERE. Or, if you want to be spared the pain, here are the main points:

  • 90 Firefighters battled the fire for over 3 hours
  • 1 Firefighter was injured by an electrical shock but was treated and released
  • $750,000 in damages
  • Patrick Murphy, the operating manager of J&R Seafood is not Lin. Lin is CEO …CEO!! At first I thought Patrick was his English name..
  • Cause of fire still under investigation

An abridged version of the previous article is available HERE. Hopefully they find out who did this, pull each part of his body apart, and put his head at the foot of the bridge entering Cambridge.

laptops confiscated without suspicion

Posted in Blog on August 1, 2008 by capizzi

This isn’t related to Beer Olympics really, but it’s relevant to us all and especially people who travel a lot for work. I read this piece this morning in the Washington Post…

“Federal agents may take a traveler’s laptop computer or other electronic device to an off-site location for an unspecified period of time without any suspicion of wrongdoing, as part of border search policies the Department of Homeland Security recently disclosed…”

Yeah, so, many of you know Jenny and me pretty well. I can’t say we’re the most pro-21st-Century-US-Government, but in my most humble and meaningless opinion, maybe this will be close enough to home to affect us.

The US Patriot Act sucked, but like my dad said, “Have your rights be infringed upon by the Patriot Act?” I guess I have to say no, because directly, they haven’t. But I don’t think that’s any reason to ignore it. This laptop thing is a consequence of the Patriot Act (aka the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001).

One more quick note, the Act was supposed to stop and “sunset” in 2004. However, our government extended many of its provisions indefinitely in 2006. So it’s still here. Unlawful search and seizure is still lawful.

I’m a hippie (according to Soopahpit…haha aka the chiseled Super-S-Curl Newt Gingrich or Bay Buchannan), and that’s all I have to say about that. I would have put it on my personal blog, but I haven’t updated there so no one reads it…haha
